Best video converter for Linux Mint

I have recently installed the Linux Mint operating system on my laptop and I want to convert some FLV files which I have downloaded from the Youtube. Can you guys suggest me some best converters which can be used to convert the videos easily without any decrease in the quality of video or sound. It would be even better to have free softwares so that I don't have to keep update or register it.

Although with windows, it is rather used to using software via graphical interfaces, ffmpeg has a range of exciting opportunities, quick to implement, and usable in batch files for batch processing pars. It is available as open-source (therefore free) and change regularly. You must retrieve the most recent is a file compressed in 7z format, open format that can unzip using 7zip , open-source software that compresses and decompresses also many other formats.

There are graphical interfaces to simplify greatly the transcoding of files:
    • Hyper Video Converter - It allows everything that can FFMpeg but with a GUI!
    • WinFF - This software allows you to choose from a list of video encoding profiles that will suit your needs. For example if you want to make a video compatible Blackberry, you will not even need to know what the internal encoding used.

Other GUIs were created to meet specific needs:
    • Mobile Media Converter is proposing to him when to transcode your videos to mobile video playback devices such as mobile phones and the iPod MP3 player / MP4.

Other software can make more radical changes to the video and use ffmpeg to render the final video:
    • Avidemux - Its main feature is to allow the implementation of video filters such as remove the black stripes of a video. About transcoding it is doing very well and allows the use of the main codecs in reading and writing. (Equivalent to Virtualdub)
    • Cinelerra - extremely powerful editing software, not suitable for beginners and does not offer a simple interface for transcoding. Book the special effects to your
    • Kino - Software Installation and transcoding for beginners.

For all the videos will make use of predefined profiles that are very accurate in all of the options for encoding are defined. The files and the video from each streaming portals can then use these profiles to convert. In this way, the quality settings for the target formats use very organized and effective.

WinFF is a software to convert videos simply, to use different profiles to transcode your videos into other formats. This intuitive software provides quite satisfactory results even for a beginner who does not know much about the characteristics of a video. It can convert almost any video file to many, many formats you will not here so it would be long! WinFF just know that can do Flash , Xvid , WMV , MOV , PAL , NTSC . It can also extract audio from a video. WinFF proposes to convert your video into the format your iPod (or other mobile phone mp3 player that can play videos) with no knowledge and no setup. This feature is particularly useful to users of Rockbox (excellent firmware for free Ipod, Iriver and other media players).
