Do you have any previous version installed on your system ? If yes, than uninstall the previous one and than try to install Visual Stuido 2008. FOr more info, just go through this thread: Unable to install Visual Studio 2008 . In case, still you face any problem, do reply.

No, i dont have any previous versions installed. But i did find this free software called MonoDevelop, and works very well and does the job.
