When a SmartArt graphic is chosen, you can open the Text pane: while you add and edit content, SmartArt graphic is automatically updated. Forms are added or removed as required. You can also insert and eradicate shapes of the SmartArt graphic in order to customize of the structure which you have chosen. When you insert or eradicate shapes and edit text, the display of shapes and the sum of text they have gets updated automatically thus maintaining the border and the novel design of the layout of your SmartArt graphic. PowerPoint 2010 presentations frequently have slides with bulleted lists. You can swiftly translate slide text to a SmartArt graphic. Additionally, you can insert an animation to a SmartArt graphic in PowerPoint 2010 presentations. When you choose a layout, the text placeholder is shown.

You can animate your SmartArt graphic or to add an effect or to display your data by phase. You can animate all or only one of its forms. For example, you can create an organization that fades in level by level. Always use sparingly animations to avoid obscuring your message or to overwhelm your audience. In deciding how animation works best with the layout of your SmartArt graphic, view the information in the Text pane. Most activities begin with the first bullet displayed in the Text pane, and then continue down. You can also play an animation in reverse order. If the Text pane is not visible, you can display it: select the SmartArt graphic in the slide. In the Create Graphic group of SmartArt Tools Design tab, click Text Pane. You can also click the arrows to the left of the selected SmartArt graphic.

The animations available keeps on changing which depends on the chosen layout for your SmartArt graphic. However, you would be able to animate all forms at a time or one by one. The animated items are shown on the slide with numbered tags are invisible to the printing (or during the presentation). These tags correspond to entries in the list pane Animation and displayed next to your SmartArt graphic, and in the Animation panel in Normal mode. The animations that you apply to a SmartArt graphic are different from those available for shapes, text or WordArt:
    • The connecting lines between shapes are always associated with the following form and are not animated individually.
    • If you apply an animation to shapes in a SmartArt graphic, the movie is released in order of appearance forms. You can only reverse the order of the whole animation. Therefore, you can not rearrange the sequence of events for a SmartArt graphic unique (if not reverse the order of the shapes).

Before you create a SmartArt graphic, try to identify the type and layout that best suits your data. What message do you want to go to the graph? Looking for a particular type of representation? As you can easily and quickly change the layout, try several (among different types), until you find one that best illustrates your message. Your graph should be clear and understandable. Also consider the amount of text you have, because it often determines the arrangement and number of forms you need. In general, SmartArt graphics are most effective when the number of shapes and the amount of text does not exceed a certain limit. From a visual standpoint, the longer text can reduce the appeal of the SmartArt graphic and make the message more difficult to communicate. Some provisions, such as trapezoidal List List type, however, lend themselves to the use of longer text.
