I guess you should try installing the Hotfix which might solve this problem. Though I have not seen any such issue on my Windows XP machine but still I think that this issue must be having its fix in the Hotfix. I suggest you to go the microsoft.com where you must be having a proper Hotfix download for solving this issue. But make sure that you are downloading the proper Hotfix. Here I have got the Hotfix which can solve your issue. If it does not then you may search for the better one which won't be having any such problem.

To fix this problem yourself, follow these steps:

    1. Click Start, click Run, type regedit in the Open box, and then press ENTER.
    2. Locate the following registry subkey:
    • HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\12.0\Excel\Options

    3. Double-click the OPEN registry entry.
    4. In the Value data box, delete “/F” from the value, and then click OK.
    5. For example, the OPEN registry key contains the following data:
    • /F C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office12\Library\SOLVER\solver.xlam

    6. Change this to the following:
    • C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office12\Library\SOLVER\solver.xlam

    7. On the File menu, click Exit.

Most probably this seems to be the problem with the path of the solver.xlam due to which you it not able to find out the same and hence you are stuck in between the installation process. The solution which has been provided in the above post is the perfect one. You just need to change a little bit in the path which will solve this problem. But make sure that you are not changing any other path as it might become headache to find out the next bug.

Solver in Excel 2007 is an add that is not installed by default. If you want to install the same then you have to open MS Excel Options and then in the Supplements, it verifies that the dropdown list. You would be having a Manage at the bottom where you can select for the Excel add-ins and then click on the Go. Make sure that you have checked the Solver supplement in the Add In list.
