I would like to tell you that most of the recently used options for the world get stored in the Word Data registry key. An ordinary way to get it solved is to delete the Word Data registry key. After that when you start the World next time then it will build the data registry key with its default settings. Below are the steps that you can follow to delete the data registry key:
    1. Exit all Office programs.
    2. Click Start, click Run, type regedit, and then click OK.
    3. Locate the following registry subkey, as appropriate for the version of Word that you are running:
      • Word 2002:
        HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft \Office\10.0\Word\Data
      • Word 2003:
        HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\ Office\11.0\Word\Data
      • Word 2007:
        HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\ Office\12.0\Word\Data
      • Word 2010:
        HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\14.0\Word\Data
    4. Click Data, and then click Export on the File menu.
    5. Name the file Wddata.reg, and then save the file to the desktop.
    6. Click Delete on the Edit menu, and then click Yes.
    7. Exit Registry Editor.
    8. Start Word.

You can try the below mentioned solution to see whether this helps you or not. I am not sure that this is definitely going to solve the issue or not but you should give it a try.
    1. Press Alt + T.
    2. Go to Folder option.
    3. Select view tabs.
    4. Now select "Show hidden files, folders and drives" under Hidden Files and Folders.
    5. Click on Apply and OK.

This may solve the problem for you.

I think that some of the settings in the office are changes and that is why it is creating problem. According to me you have to rename the global template file. If you do this then you will be able to reset all the settings.
    1. Exit all Office programs.
    2. Click Start, click Run, type cmd, and then click OK.
    3. Type the following command, as appropriate for the version of Word that you are running, and then press ENTER:
      • Word 2002 and Word 2003:
        ren %userprofile%\Application Data\Microsoft\Templates\Normal.dot OldNormal.dot
      • Word 2007 and Word 2010:
        ren %userprofile%\Application Data\Microsoft\Templates\Normal.dotm OldNormal.dotm
    4. Type exit, and then press ENTER.
    5. Start Word.

The Microsoft office that is installed on your computer may have been corrupted or some of the installed files form that may be missing and therefore it is not getting started. My suggestion to you is to uninstall the office that you are using currently and after that install the new setup for this. This may solve the issue. If that is also not able to solve the issue for you then you can try to install the it again with a new setup file. Because your setup may be corrupted itself. Try to do this and this will resolve the problem if it is because of the bad installation or corrupted files.
