Is QuickTime Pro playing avi file

Sponsored Links
Expect someone can help me. I have a few avi files with the xvid codec which I cannot play in QT-P. They play well in Windows Media Player and I have the xvid codec installed but all I get is a black or grey display with no sound. QT-P picks up the length of the video and plays it but not receiving anything. I am using Windows XP in my computer system and I wish to be able to make use of QT-P to convert avi files to mp4 so I can watch on my Apple TV but I cannot translate a file I cannot even watch on QT-P. So anyone have any idea?

However I know about this, it might be a non standard codec. I recommend that either you find an xvid plug-in for QuickTime if any or you place WMP as the default player for avi files. I had a comparable trouble where most video converters could not read certain video recordings because of the codec. So as my point of view you also have same problem.

I also have the same issue as chetna56 have. I am hopeful to be able to make use of QuickTime Pro to do my translation to mp4's for my Apple TV, I presently using Handbrake but my converted files are too pixilated and unusable so in order to do that I necessitate to be able to play avi files in QuickTime Pro first so unluckily that rules out Windows media Player. As for the xvid plug-in for QuickTime I guess that is what's presented through the Apple site which I did install but I am having no fortune with.

Re: Is QuickTime Pro playing avi file

To the top of my information, there is no xvid plug-in for QuickTime for Windows, just for the Mac version of QuickTime. All the plugging offered or presented for Windows which I can find do not work with QuickTime. So you will in all probability necessitate using some further software to handle converting your videos to MPEG-4.

Re: Is QuickTime Pro playing avi file

The majority of my movies are in AVI format and while I try to opening them in QuickTime pro 7 I presently get a black screen with some sound. Does this really mean that I don’t have the accurate codec’s or there is some other reason? I really not understood what exactly the problem is? So please someone help me to know the problem.

Re: Is QuickTime Pro playing avi file

Open Terminal. Type file ‘, after that drag the AVI to the Terminal window; press enter and you will get information concerning the AVI expectantly, and it will inform you what codec has been used. You do say these are movies, so I am going to guess movies from channel BT and so forth, which should be programmed as Xvid or DivX. Maybe you did not stop QuickTime Player? Or place them in the incorrect file?
