If your environment may not have been implemented on 64-bit (we recommend this for years with all customers), you must first migrate through the existing farm run on 64-bit for example an in-place upgrade can be. This is ürbigens and Windows Server 2008 and SQL Server components. It shall be declared for all areas of system requirements that BEFORE an in-place upgrade should be done (yes I said above, that this can become quite complex).

Check therefore all components, and Web Parts that can develop in the future you buy for your SharePoint 2007 and that this is 100% 64bit capable. This, too, we have been doing for years because it was obvious that focus that Microsoft is 64bit (you know the drill already by the Exchange world, where Exchange 2010 RTM is already available since Exchange 2007 and everything is 64bit).

If you are planning to upgrade the most experienced experts, as these may well be complex. Migrations are often underestimated by customer: We are often called only when there are huge problems because of the complexity are just made mistakes and was usually not planned really. Would you build a house without a plan? Unfortunately, this happened in IT too often, believe me, planning is really the spice of life and SharePoint are now even business-critical data stored. Most times now lacks the experience, as customers migrate only once in contrast to experts, for the less a "daily job" is.

The hybrid version has a little bit of everything and what would be a combination of the variant for pre-upgrade and database migration. One can thus benefit from the advantages of both styles accordingly. Microsoft provides all the tools and instructions for a successful migration according to available. The Visual Upgrade Microsoft has developed another innovation in the process of migration to SharePoint 2010 - I like particularly well and is ideal for conversion scenarios where users are unfamiliar with the new "Ribbon" interface.
