How to install VLC on CentOS 5.4

I using Centos 5.4. Which is free software operating system a based on the red hat enterprise Linux. I am trying to install VLC on the Centos. I have enabled the Extra Packages for Enterprise Linux(EPEL) repository. But it still contains older version of the VLC media player. Is it possible to install the VLC player from the source code. If yes then suggest me. Thanks in advance.

You should try this code for the installation of VLC. This code generate you the actual name of the package for VLC. After this try to install the player.

As you are using Centos5.4 operating system. You want to install the VLC player in the operating system which you are using. So to install VLC in the Centos you need RPM package manager. Which you can download from internet. I am not sure but I think it can be done by using RPM package manager.

I was having the same problem as I was unknown to the Linux programs. Also I was new to this language. I have an idea it can be solved by using lib rpms and vlc rpms. I found it very difficult to install VLC through yum. For this you need to log in as normal user then only you can run it.
