Deploying Office 2007 and 2010 Through Group Policy

Using group policy(GPO), I am trying to deploy Office 2007. I however managed to install it on the test workstation, but with only some of the features using the XML file. Now every time a program is launched, it gets load, but before anyone can do anything, it again "configures" itself. Any guesses of where I am going wrong? Now even the Office 2010 is also out. Should I look for the answer with it or should I first experiment with the Office 2007.

Re: Deploying Office 2007 and 2010 Through Group Policy

I have used Office 2007 and am using Office 2010, but did not do any thing like this with 2007. I have done this, using a start up script, and it works fine with Office 2010. I am dam sure that this will definitely going to work with Office 2007. If it gets a success I will be happy to inform you and then I will give you the full detail of how it worked. Till then you can try the advice that you get in this forum.

If you are thinking of using Office 2010, I am sure that at the start you might get some problems. So, it would be advisable that you first get all the previous versions of Office to be removed. As, now you are going to deploy Office 2007, using Group Policy, you should take care of all the possible things that might cause problem later in the progress.

I have also seen this problem once before while trying the deployment on the Windows 2008 server. I tried a lot of things but ended with using GPO. Finally I found a different deployment method, since can not find the GPO much trustworthy. This may be the problem that Microsoft must have also encountered, but could not able to rectify it. In case of 2010, I don't think that there is such mechanism of deploying GPO, but there's a way of doing this via Group Policy Login Script.

Re: Deploying Office 2007 and 2010 Through Group Policy

All the computers that I possess have Office 2003. The Office 2003 is installed manually in them. Group Policy was never used to force 2003 on to these machines. Now, we want Office 2007 to be placed on the system having Office 2003. This time, however I want to make use of the Group Policy in fulfilling my desire. Now, what I really want to do is, remove Office 2003 and let only 2007 to be on the system. Now I have read that, the only way I can achieve this is if the Office 2003 would have been installed using GOP. However, now I can not get this done because, Office 2003 was not installed using GOP. So, can any one out there can help me get out of this. Any help will ba appreciated!

The situation that you have come up does not suit using the Software Installation section of GPO for the purpose of deployment. If you wish to use GPO's software installation, you can try deploying Office 2007 on your system. Do take care that while doing so do not use a custom .msp. From my side, it would be better if you make use of a startup script in GPO for deploying the Office 2007. By doing so, the settings can be customized as per the requirement of yours.
