    atikmdag.sys, Windows 7 x64, ATI Radeon 4850, Crossfire

I am having an issue with the Windows 7. Actually i have installed the Windows 7 in my system and used the Windows update to install the latest driver for the Video card and after that have ruined my system. The system is booting into the safe mode but in normal mode it is not working. I am having the ATI Radeon 4850 Crossfire installed. I have read about this problem and come to know that this is something related to the atikmdag.sys. So if you can then please let me know about the same. Thanks in advance.

I have gone through your problem and come to know that you are not the only one who is facing the problem like this with the Windows Update. Most of the user are getting the problem while they are installing the driver through the Windows update. I will advise you to download the driver individually and then install on system.

I think your system is unable to install the driver through the Windows update which might be because of the hardware conflict. To resolve your issue i will advise you to follow the steps given below.
    • Download Driver Sweeper
    • Boot in Safe Mode
    • Run the Driver Sweeper
    • Select ATI in same
    • It will clean the ATI component
    • Run in normal Mode
    • Download Original Driver for ATI
    • Install it

    Thats it!!!!

First uninstall the driver with the help of the any uninstaller utility which will help you to remove the same from the registry also and then only use the new driver which is compatible with the Windows 7 and install into your system. To know about the uninstaller you have to check the below given link which is having the discussion about same.
