WinHlp32.exe and Windows 7 x64 gives cannot display this help file

Have a Classic VB6 application which is based on the .hlp files. I am sure about this which is used to open these on Windows 7 x64 and requires Winhlp32.exe. So I have finished the downloading of the x64 version of Winhlp32.exe from the Microsoft Support website..

Now, can open .hlp files which is saved onto the local disk of computer system (C: drive). Still unable to open any .hlp files which are placed on the shared folder (intranet). received the message as "Cannot display this help file. Try opening the help file again, and if you still get this message, copy the help file to a different drive, and try again."

This behavior got generated only if you used to open up the Help file onto the Windows 95- dependent system and the Help file is currently getting opened onto the Windows NT-dependent system . There are some different machines installed onto the Windows NT 3.x, Windows 3.1x, or Windows for Workgroups 3.1x can open the Help file when it is open on a Windows NT-dependent system .

If you are currently getting this issue again and again then jack is right with the above, you need to go with that way first and then after move for another step. For working around such type of behavior, you need to go for any one of the suggested ways :

1- Copy the Help file to some other name or location.
2- Close down the Help file on the system involve in the execution on Windows NT.
3- Configure the access type for the network share with the read-only settings .
4- Add a second network protocol in Network properties.

The error message that you are getting is just because Vista and Windows 7 no longer involve into the Windows Help (WinHlp32.exe). However, Microsoft realizes that a number of previously implemented applications still work with the Windows Help and made this available for download to Vista and Windows 7 system.. This one download fixes the Help file related problem within a stand-alone installation of ViewPlan but due to the well banned security within the Windows Vista and Windows 7, Help files which are saved onto the network drives are restricted from opening.Wen the network installations of ViewPlan saves the Help files onto a network drive, workstations working with the Windows Vista or Windows 7 will still get the error message.

When you used to open a Windows Help document with a full-access network share, you may get the below explained unrecoverable error message: Cannot display the Help file. Try opening the Help document again, and if you still get the message, move the Help document to a different drive, and try again.

But you can fix this with the help of below suggested method ?

    Step 1:
Move to download and finish the installation of RegistryEasy as a free product from the Internet .

    Step 2:
Click on the "Scan" button specified .

    Step 3:
Click on to the 'Fix Errors' Button to Repair Your PC !
