Windows Server 2008 R2 will focus on actualization with a new version of Hyper-V and the arrival of the Live Migration to migrate virtual machines from one physical host to another, without interruption or almost. In turn, Terminal Services will handle the distribution of visualized packages. This will make it possible to create packages with applications and desktop, managed centrally and deployed on a Windows 7 desktop without the user knowing if the application is ultimately hosted locally or on the server. Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R2 as Windows 7 will use version 2.0 of PowerShell, while Microsoft will offer a new management console for Active Directory directory. As is the case for Windows 7, no date of availability is for the time mentioned about Windows Server 2008 R2, so that participants at PDC 2008 was awarded an initial version first beta of Windows Server 2008 R2.

Live Mesh provides each user with a free storage to 5 GB , the " Live Desktop "available via the Internet . To implement the sharing and synchronization of content between multiple devices, each of them must be equipped with small program Live Mesh software. It currently works only on computers running Windows XP (SP2 + ) or Vista, and soon for Mac OS and Windows Mobile. Interestingly, the user can also provide access to the Live Desktop to his friends or colleagues.

If the first version of the application necessary for the use of Mesh only works with Windows PCs ( XP or Vista ), the publisher promises a future compatibility with Macs and Windows Mobile phones before, why not, of Extend it to all devices can communicate with a network TCP / IP. The online interface which allows to connect to service and monitor its network for its staff should work from most of popular browsers.
