How to download Silverlight on Ubuntu

How can I Download silverlight? I want to watch a video. Ubuntu asks for the download of the Silverlight plugin. How do I download this plugin? I have no idea that silverlight being a microsoft software runs on linux or not. Any more discussion on this is appreciated. Thank you.

In Synaptic, I installed libmoon and moonlight-plugin-core. What should I do now? The plugin must be installed on Ubuntu or Firefox?

I installed: moonlight-plugin-mozilla.
Now I get the message: The plugin your browser does not update (Set 2, 3 required)

Options (displayed in firefox)

- Update this plugin
- Do not use Silverlight

update this plugin returns microsoft.

What version you have installed in firefox: Tools => Complementary modules and look at the novel version of moonlight. I think you are not following the correct procedure to install the software.

after Update your developer runtime to the latest version (Silverlight 3 RTW, Silverlight or newer if ever patched IS)
Install the Silverlight SDK 3
Uninstall Silverlight Tools for VS2008 2
Install Silverlight Tools for VS2008
Install a new patch to VS2008 for Silverlight
