Volume Mixer is not able to respond well with Media Playback

I have a desktop machine and it is been installed with Windows 7. The problem is that Volume Mixer not able to respond well. I do not know what could have caused this with the Media player application. Please help me out so that the thing would be sorted. I do not know for the same. Hope to get a better solution which would really let the thing to be implemented and process for the thing.
