error code 0x80070643

When I attempt to download ms essentials, the download seems to complete itself, but then I get an error message "0x80070643" and the download reverses itself. How can I fix this error and successfully download ms essentials?

Are you facing this error while downloading a fresh copy of MSE or while updating a installed MSE ? Also which operating system are you using, Windows XP and Vista ?

Anyways, if you are facing this issue while installing a fresh copy than first start Windows in Selective Startup mode. You can do this by typing msconfig in the command prompt. In the General tab, click Selective Startup, and then clear the Load Startup Items check box.

On the Services tab, select the Hide All Microsoft Services check box, and then clear all the check boxes for the services that remain in the list. Click OK, and then click Restart to restart the computer.Try to install Microsoft Security Essentials again.

I followed your instructions exactly as you said, but had the same result. The installation of ms essentials was done and then it immediately uninstalled and gave me the same error message.

What do you suggest?

To troubleshoot these errors, you have to enable logging for two processes, and then try to install the updates again. When you enable logging, the actual error codes that are generated by Windows Installer are captured. As soon as the error codes are captured, you can determine the actual issue and the resolution for that issue. For more info, just check out this Microsoft Article.
