Invalid torrent file error in uTorrent

I am facing a very weird problem with the uTorrent application installed on the computer. Whenever I load any torrent on the uTorrent to download, it gives invalid torrent file error. This is weird because uTorrent should support torrent files and hence I want to know the reason behind it. Is there any extra configuration required for the uTorrent to download the torrents? Any suggestions regarding the topic are more than welcome.

Is there any other torrent client installed on the computer? If some other torrent client is installed on the computer and set as the default application to handle torrent files then the uTorrent is bound to give such errors. To solve the problem, you will have to set uTorrent as the default application for handling the torrent files. Once the uTorrent is set as the default application, you will not face the same error.

Just installing the uTorrent on the computer will not help you in downloading the torrent files on the computer. You will have to associate the uTorrent to torrent files for downloading the torrent files. To associate uTorrent with Torrent files, open the uTorrent and open the settings. In the settings, press the button which says, "Associate with Torrent files" and save the settings. Restart the application and see if the same error is faced while downloading torrent files or not.

Are you trying to run the torrent files directly from the source? Sometimes the uTorrent is not able to detect the torrent file from the source itself and can give the errors which you are facing. Download the torrent file to your hard drive and then load it in the uTorrent to download. Check if the uTorrent gives the same error while downloading the file.

Do not double click on the torrent file to open it using uTorrent. Instead open the uTorrent on the computer and then click on Add button in the uTorrent. Locate the torrent file on the hard drive and click open. Let the torrent load and check if the file starts downloading. If the file still gives the error, the torrent file must be corrupt.

According to me the uTorrent application is infected with some kind of virus and hence it is not working properly. Download an updated antivirus on the computer and scan the system with it. Repair or quarantine the files which are infected. If the files of the uTorrent are infected, then you will have to reinstall the application again.
