Video chat gets glitchy on iChat

I have a Mac book Pro and it is been installed with Mac OS X. I have installed iChat application to the system. The problem is that when I try to perform a video chat it glitches every time I try out. I do not know why is this happening? Nut this has lead to a huge problem as I am not able to use the application well and perform smoothly. Please help. It would be a great.
