no webcam button on msn messenger now!

I'm trying to view peoples webcams on msn messenger but I no longer have the small menu when you press the webcam icon which gave a choice of viewing webcam or video chat. the only thing that happens now is that it goes straight to video chat all the time

Can anyone help fix this please?

Which version of Msn messenger are you using? Have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling the messenger again? If by chance you are using 9.1 or above version of the Msn messenger then try to downgrade it to 8.5 version. I have heard that there is some issues while watching someone on webcam on the Msn messenger 9 version, so therefore try to downgrade to 8.5 version.

Its the latest verion.
Will It let me use 8.5 instead of the latest version? tired old versions 7 and 8 but wouldn't let me finish the install as they new one was available?

You will need to install the standalone package of msn messenger 8.5 rather than installing it automatically via the installer package so, download it from here. Also after installing it follow the below procedures to avoid it to upgrade to its latest version:

1. Go to Start -> Control Panel -> Add/Remove Programs
2. Towards the bottom of your list, select "Windows Live Beta (all programs).
3. Click "Change/Remove".
4. Tick "Install/Uninstall". Continue
5. Untick all others besides "Windows Live Messenger"
