    Task Scheduler

    Hi

I am using a Windows 2003 server, and have admin rights. I am not able to create a new task in Windows scheduler, when I select "NEW->scheduled task" (under Control panel/Scheduled Tasks), nothing happens. The admin user is also a member of the "Backup Operators", however should not need to be as it has Administrator preivledges.

Can somebody please advise now I can create a new Scheduler task.

    thanks

    Steve

    Re: Task Scheduler

The Task Scheduler service must be running and properly configured to run tasks. If you had stopped scheduled tasks manually from the Scheduled Tasks window, the service stops and does not initialize the next time you start the computer. If the service is not configured to log on as the local system account, it may not start. For more check the Microsoft

    Re: Task Scheduler

Thanks Eric, however your suggestion and the Microsoft article did not solve the problem. There are scheduled tasks which run, so the Task Scheduler is active, however I don't seem to have update access to the "Scheduled Tasks" folder, so can't create new schedules (I can edit current schedules for some reason). I have logged in as an Administrator user, so not sure what else I have to do. I did notice however that I can't access "Computer Management" or "Services" from the "Administrator tools" under Control Panel, it doesn't appear, I need to select "Manage" from the Admin account icon on the desktop. If you have any other tips, that would be appreciated.

    thanks

    Steve

You can use Task Scheduler in Windows XP or W2k3 using schtasks.exe:
