Shell32.dll in use how to overwrite

    Hi everyone,
I have dell computer with Windows xp. I have recently changed the icons in shell32.dll. Whenever I tried to overwrite that file, I get error message like "the file is being in use". I tried various methods, but nothing happened. Can anyone tell me how to overwrite Shell32.dll which is in use? Please help me.
    Thank you.

From your information it seems that that file is used by some process and that's why you are not able to rename or overwrite it. In this case you have to use following steps to fix this problem.
    1.First turn off your computer.
2.Now after 5 minutes again start your computer.
    3.Now try to overwrite it.

You have to use Replacer application to fix this problem. Replacer is an easy to use system file replacer for Windows 2000 and XP. It safely replaces protected or in-use system files. The zipped package is 10kb. Extract, run, and follow the on-screen instructions. Feel free to email Undefined if you have any feedback or questions.

Re: Shell32.dll in use how to overwrite

As per my knowledge you have to use GConvert application to overwrite Shell32.dll. create, open, edit and manage icon libraries in ICL format (standard icon library format) both in 32-bit or 16-bit. Add, rename, edit or remove icons from your icon libraries directly with GConvert. You can also compile them into true 32-bit DLL files (like MORICONS.DLL, Shell32.dll) or Zip archives. To get this application go to it's official site.
