Need to get SATA HD working

A friend of mine just gave me an PC with Windows XP SP3 on it. Its a pentium 4, I think from around 2004.
I just put a new SATA HD in it but when windows boots It doesnt see the drive.
I wanted to go into the BIOS to turn on autodetect but when you start the computer there is no opportunity, it just goes straight to the windows boot up screen.
I guess either I need to figure out a way to get into the BIOS or I should install some drivers. Any ideas, help?

As you are telling that you are having problem getting into the BIOS or unable to access the same. It seems that your BIOS got corrupted which can be due to the Virus also. So i think you have to check for the Virus. Just boot into the safe mode with networking and the update the anti virus program and then run the full system scan.

Re: Need to get SATA HD working

I updated some of the drivers then when I rebooted I saw that the BIOS became available by pressing F2. I don't really understand why I succeeded here.
However, I was then able to get into the BIOS and enable SATA. Now the HD is recognized.
    Problem solved.
