    Hello,
Either Gentoo or Ubuntu or Debian, I advise not to the tree-portage / apt to install Eclipse.

    First step:
    Code:
    emerge dev-java/sun-jdk
java-config-L ← to see VM arranged
java-config-s ← setter for the VM user (to do as merely exercised)
java-config-S ← setter for the VM system
    Second stage:
In Eclipse go to d / l the tar file in Eclipse which decompresses and then thrown. Fast, reliable, and painless. Anyway Eclipse has its own management tool updates.
This is it you have installed eclipse in Gentoo.

    Hello,
I am the same opinion as the above post. I had the same kind of problem you to install on sabayon. Download the .tar and install it manually in the operating system. In addition there are alternative kinds of Eclipse like IDE for example Netbeans is not bad either (but sometimes creates display problem when desktop effects are active).

    Hello,
I have a similar kind of a problem with this. This is what I get when i try to do the installation
    Code:
Xlib: connection to ": 0.0" refused by server
    Xlib: No protocol specified
I thought to solve the problem with export DISPLAY = localhost: 0.0
followed xhost + localhost but now nothing do, if you have any ideas?
The error message I get is
    Code:
Gtk-Message: Failed to load module "gnomebreakpad" libgnomebreakpad.so: Can not open shared object file: No such file or directory type

    Hello,
Try to un-compress your archive as a normal user. Generally, your error is just when you launch a graphical program as root from a user launched in X, not vice versa.

    - NetBeans is an alternative to Eclipse: it does not compare, NetBeans makes very little and is not necessarily good.
I recommend you to use the Eclipse rather than NetBeans. Because Eclipse has more features.

    Hello,
Indeed matter of taste, it was just as informative, I found netbeans is not bad for the construction of graphical interfaces. And the installation might have been easier, finally, in this case (it depends also need some more guidance, eclipse being more "professional"). Most of the time of the simple text editor like the Kate, even this is a good text editor and has every thing a programmer wants.
