I just built this 64-bit Windows 7 computer. It seems to be running fine, except that I can't print. I have an HP Deskjet 820CXi printer on a parallel port. It is set up as an EPP port in the BIOS of the computer. The bi-directional parallel cable has been in use for some time and is a known good cable. I've checked the connections on both ends.
I installed the driver and Windows shows the printer as installed and ready. When I try to print, I was getting an error (after a timeout of 30 seconds or so), saying:
"Windows cannot connect to the printer. The local print spooler service is not running. Please restart the spooler or restart the machine." Then the printer (which had shown as Ready, now has an Exclamation point in front of its listing in Devices and Printers).
Sometimes the printer shows as ready, but nothing goes into the spooler when I print.

I've been following suggestions I've found on various on-line forums.
I deleted the 2 files in C:\Windows\System32\spool\printers. No help.
I ran the SFC program. No errors found. Here is the screen.
