Re: How to backup address book and mail folders in Outlook Express?

May be more than one Inbox.mbx file, indicating that you have multiple storage folders. Note the location of all files Inbox.dbx and make a backup of all folders containing the files. Mbx and. Idx. It is important that you backup the entire contents of the store folder in Outlook Express, especially if you want to import the files into an updated version of the program. Without the. Idx files. Mbx (containing the actual messages) can not be imported into Outlook Express 5 or later version of an Outlook Express.

Re: How to Restore Mail Folders in Outlook Express?

To restore the Outlook Express mail that you have made a backup, you need to backup the entire folder to store mail messages from Outlook Express. These should be kept in a backup device or in a folder or a different hard drive. To restore data, replace the. Mbx files from the backup store in Outlook Express and create a new Folders.nch. By default, the folder where the message store files of Outlook Express is one of the following:
  • drive: \ Program Files \ Outlook Express \ username \ Mail or
  • drive: \ windows_directory \ Profiles \ username \ Application Data \ Microsoft \ Outlook Express \ Mail
You can move files from the backup folder to this folder to replace the existing files. It is advisable to rename the files. Idx and. Mbx files in the store folder before replacing them with files from the backup. Use only the. Mbx backup, the. Idx will be recreated automatically when you start the program. You may want to change the file name also Folders.nch the store folder. The Folders.nch file helps to create the folder list in Outlook Express and automatically regenerated when you restart the program.
