Re: How to Lock Individual Cells in a Worksheet?

If you lock a cell and protect the worksheet, you can not enter data into the cell or edit the data in it now, or change other attributes of the cell (such as format cell). You can use the Protection tab which is present in the format option of the cells. By using that you can lock an individual cells in a worksheet according to you. If the Cells command is not available, parts of the worksheet may already be locked. You will have to enable the option Unprotect Sheet.

Re: How to Lock Individual Cells in a Worksheet?

If you want to lock the majority of cells, you can follow the steps :
  1. Select the cells that must remain unprotected. To select nonadjacent (noncontiguous), hold down the CTRL key and click on the cells that must remain unprotected.
  2. In the Format menu, click Cells, click the Protection tab.
  3. Clear the Locked check box, then click OK.
  4. In the Tools menu, point to Protection, click Protect Sheet. Type a password if you wish, then click OK.

Re: How to Lock Individual Cells in a Worksheet?

In many cases you need to unlock the majority of cells. To leave the majority of cells in a worksheet unlocked, proceed as follows :
  1. Select the entire worksheet by clicking the Select All button (the gray rectangle located in the upper left corner of the worksheet to where the headers in row 1 and column A meet ) or by pressing CTRL + A or CTRL + SHIFT + SPACE.
  2. In the Format menu, click Cells, click the Protection tab. Clear the Locked check box, then click OK.
  3. Select the cells to protect. To select nonadjacent (noncontiguous), hold down the CTRL key and click on cells to be protected.
  4. In the Format menu, click Cells, click the Protection tab. Select the Locked check box, then click OK.
  5. In the Tools menu, point to Protection, click Protect Sheet. Type a password if you wish, then click OK.

Re: How to Lock Individual Cells in a Worksheet?

Microsoft Excel offers many ways to change the display of a cell. For example, you can specify the number of decimal digits that must appear to the right of the comma or add a pattern and use it to guide the cell. The box of the Format Cells dialog allows you to access and modify most of these settings (on the Format menu, click Cells). The Format dialog box cell consists of six tabs: Number, Alignment, Font, Border, Patterns, and Protection.
