    File Associations Broken in Office 2010 Beta

    My dell inspiron laptop is installed with the windows 7 operating system. I have installed the office 2010 beta on my system. I am facing problem with word 2010 file association. Word does not open the .docs , .docxs and some other files on double clicks too. Is there a way to go about this problem please help at your earliest.

    I think that your file association are changed for some reason it might be a bug in office 2010. So the best possible solution to this problem seems as you have to do a repair install on your system. Which will repair all the word file which is damaged for some reason.     Thanks for the help which you provided i followed the steps which you mentioned i tried to do a repair install on my system using the office 2010 beta cd but even after the repair the same thing is repeated so i would like to get a different solution to solve this problem. Suggest a different idea as soon as you can.

    So you are using a windows 7 operating system. Then i will recommend you to do a repair install but if it has not helped you as you have mentioned in your above post. It will be helpful if you go to the control panel and select programs and check whether it can restore the file association.

    Hello!!! Now i can open the .doc extension files by word -> Open -> *.doc . But whenever i try to navigate or try to open it by simply double clicking it. i get an error message ".doc is not a valid Win32 application" also i tried finding the "restore default" option but i could not get it. Please help me .

    After a deep research on this issue i found that you can solve this issue by performing the below steps:

    * Open File Manager and navigate to the file.
    * Right click the file (i.e. doc) and select Properties.
    * Now click on the general tab and select open with change.
    * Change ''Microsoft Office 2010 Component'' to “Microsoft Office Client Virtualization Handler”.
