How to create Digital Video Compression

    Hi,
What does a Digital Video is made up of. I am trying to broadcast my webcam video on yahoo. Here I have a old camera which produces analog videos but when I try to stream them online they gives out a really bad quality. On the other hand if I do the same with a DigiCam then the quality of sound and video is improvement much. How to find out the conversion process of the same.

Digital video is a video channel that is digital from end to end. Capture (camera) to the final assembly (master). Unlike the traditional video (analog) based on various conversions (acquisition, storage, import, assembly, distribution) that degrades the quality of images as and operations; digital video is compressed a once (the capture) and is directly compatible with a modern personal computers.

The video is a succession of images at a given frequency synchronized with a soundtrack. Each image has features specific dimensions like width and height along with resolution or depth and coding which enables how to memorize and match colors for each point. There are many standards and different standards. The consumer digital video based on the DV standard that comes in 2 familiesAL and NTSC.

You can if try to capture a video from any latest cam then output which you will get will a Digital Video. In digital, as analog, the catch taken by the camera relies on an optical part (lens) and a CCD sensor that records variable size at a given frequency images composed of dots. Each image point is composed of 3 basic colors Red, Green and Blue also called as RGB.

Re: How to create Digital Video Compression

A image captured by Digital Camera has a frequency of 25 frames / second (PAL). Points RGB images are converted into another mode YUV (Y = Luminescence, U = Red, V = Blue), this triplet corresponds to the pixels in RGB representation of standard video. YUV is historically used in video because it allows instant compatibility with black and white (which includes only Y) and also because it allowed the original analog coding more reliable electric transmission level.

Re: How to create Digital Video Compression

The standard DV compresses the raw image with a ratio of 5:1, meaning that the image recorded on tape is 5 times more small that the original information (through a type of coding YUV 4: 2:0 for PAL and DCT compression. With an analog camcorder like VHS, Hi8, etc the video stream is converted to analog electrical signal to be recorded on tape in the video standard used by the camcorder. This conversion digital-> analogue produces a slight distortion or loss of quality. Once captured your movie can be transferred to your computer to allow you to perform editing.
