Have you tried re installation? upgrade to newer version. Go to pidgin website and grab the latest version and download and install it. The solution is to upgrade to a newer version of Pidgin ,anything newer than Pidgin 2.5.0, which updated to using the MSNP15 protocol.

If you use Pidgin version 2.6.4 there should be adequate had a problem - if everything was correct, and still had the problem, then you have a firewall or proxy that interferes with the MSN protocol and is MSNP13 force or MSNP8 speak well, none of which we support.

Whether a port is closed or if you are using a completely different port to connect to MSN.

I'm using Pidgin now as I write.

In Pidgin plugin list, there is a plugin which lets you connect to MSN otherwise.
