How to use Substitution function in TextEdit

    Hi,
How to enable Text Substitution on Snow Leopard. I had found that this features enable to type fast and much easily on a word processor. I am using TextEdit. In my documents there are some long lines which are needed to type again and again. I use copy and past. But if this is possible in Substitution then that will much easier. How to enable that.

Among the new features of Snow Leopard, there is one that will greatly facilitate all those who spend considerable time writing on their Mac. This is a function of Substitutions. This function does not yet work with all applications, far away, but it works particularly with TextEdit and Mail, but also with iChat. It is a Cocoa applications. Hopefully this function very useful in the future will also work with other applications, like our main applications of word processing.

The main principle of substitution is that when you type a character or a group of characters or text, and the applications used (and compatible with this feature) automatically replace these characters or this text characters / text you previously pre-defined. Besides the replace text function that allows substitution also enable / disable smart quotes, the smart links, the data discovery, the intelligent copy-paste and intelligent Dashes.

To setup and use the function of substitution you will have to do this. First this the settings for text replacement. Go to the System Preferences, run the scoreboard language and text, then click the tab Text. Here you set this function. By default, Snow Leopard already offers a number of substitutions. You can then select those that interest you.

To checkout weather Text Substitution is enable in your PC then open a blank document as TextEdit. Then in the menu go to Edit > Substitutions, although the menu select Replace Text. This menu must be checked for function replacement text and symbol can indeed work. This is useful and improves your writing skills by speeding it up more.

However, this function does not stop at the small score of proposals contained in the proposed list in the Text dashboard Language and Text. In fact, you can create in this panel your own substitutions by simply clicking on the plus button at the bottom left of the scoreboard. You can generate you own customized list as per your document processing.
