How to create a encrypted image file in MAC

Hi,
How to create a encrypted disc in Mac. Which software is needed for the same. I want to introduce a new hard drive in my mac computer. Now I am wondering about the partitioning. Is it necessary to divide the hard drive into partitions. It is also true that it gives out different spaces to store of the data. Also how to create a partition in MAC. What tool is used for that.

Re: How to create a encrypted image file in MAC

Launch the service Disk Utility and then click on File menu > New > Disk Image empty. Give a location, you can give a different name for the disk image and volume when mounted. Give a size and Heading format, Mac os extended for mac, Fat 32 or MS DOS for PC. The encryption section will ask you to create a password (which can be stored in the keychain, allowing editing ChronoSync example). Then follow the wizard.

To prevent the spread of virus to documents to facilitate resettlement. Certainly, but under MacOsX, this does not become so badly needed. On the one hand, no viruses. Moreover, resettlement has an option to install the system keeping the user folder. However for lovers of partitions, there is actually an opportunity to cut the internal drive but it must be done during installation, via disk utility. Once it has restarted with the C key (and the installation DVD) key, just go into the menu and click on Disk Utility. It is sufficient to determine size and number of partition.

Always beware, that if you are creating a partition in mac by disk utility then there will be full format. Recently, there is a partitioning hot allowing the change without relocation. I have not tested, so I refrain from comment, except make a backup before any manipulation, such things may well turn into a nightmare. There can be 3 possibilities in resetting the hard drive. First obliteration it delivers flat, we lose everything. Archive and install which clears but it retains a copy of the old operating system (which is not bootable) and its data, ie the user folder (for what little we check the option) and Updated keeping user data (for example during a system update as Panther> Tiger.

The problem of external hard drives is different. Partitions make it possible to clone disks, since the cloning operation removes partition arrival. On a large disk, then we will lose the place. If the disc does serve as a Mac user, preferring the HFS + = Mac OS Extended. If he will use a "mixed" (PC / Mac), choose FAT 32. Simply plug the external drive and open Disk Utility. Select from the list, and click the Erase tab. Here, we choose the format (Mac OS Extended / MS-DOS Fat 32), the disk name. Once everything is filled in, click on delete.

The little house is supposed to be on the internal drive. This enables the protection by password, encryption, FileVault, among others. But it may be useful for reasons of space, move the iTunes library is very large. For that, nothing too complicated: Close iTunes, copy the entire music folder on the external drive. Reopen iTunes, go to preferences, and indicate the new location. Note that iTunes recreated in any way a music folder on the internal drive.
