Configuring APM on windows

I need some working information on the apm in windows. What it is it and how to configure apm in windows. I had found that the same is used to configure power saving in windows. How to configure the same from bios. In the same way how does a cache memory helps to work on the system memory. I also need some information on sd ram latency and sdram ras recharge time.

The APM (Advanced Power Management) saves energy. You can usually choose between Disabled, Min and Max Saving Saving (maximum savings). The latter option is preferable. If you have any USB devices (printer, scanner, etc.) Must set the BIOS to Enabled for their work. Otherwise put Disabled not assign an IRQ and further improve the stability of the PC.

This activates the processor's L1 cache. Industries must be Enabled. L2 Cache Level, in this activates the CPU L2 cache and it should be Enabled. Automatic Configuration (SPD or Serial Presence Detect): All settings of the memory is automatically set. To access additional settings and optimize your computer, you must select Manual instead of SPD. You have a choice then between different frequencies or ratios. Then select the appropriate ratio depending on the FSB speed, and frequency of your memory. Thus, for a processor with 133 MHz bus with SDRAM PC 133, the ratio is 1:1.

If instead of a ratio, you have a choice of frequencies possible, put the one that corresponds to the frequency of your memory. SDRAM CAS Latency. This is the time interval between the reading of information and sending it to the motherboard. Over the indicated value, the lower the performance increase. Try to set it to 2T instead of 3T.

SDRAM RAS Precharge Time is also a time interval that precedes the sending of a command to memory. As above, try to set it to 2T instead of 3T. SDRAM CAS Timing (RAS to CAS) Delay : This, again, a time interval. As above, try 2T instead of 3T. Buses : 8 Bit and 16 Bit I / O Recovery Time. This option only affects PCs that still have connections to the ISA. As for memory, it can set the waiting time, expressed in clock cycles. The choices are numerous (usually between 1T and 8T). The higher the number, the better the performance. Follow step by step, starting from a high figure, then the dropping gradually.

PCI Latency Timer : This function allows to synchronize the PCI slots with ISA connectors, slower. The default is set at 32. If there is no card in the ISA slots of your PC, you will speed up your PC by replacing the number 32 by 255. Peer Concurrency : This option allows the simultaneous operation of several PCI cards. You can set Enabled, unless your PC is not equipped with only one or none.
