    MS Project 2007 - Help with Durations/Tasks

I don't even know what to ask....so here goes....

In MS Project 2007, I create a number of tasks and assign Work in hours for that task. The intent is to create a list of tasks for that week, with the total work hours for those tasks equal to forty hours.

However, Resource usage and Task usage then show over allocations, as project evidently assigns 8 hours to each task each day until the Work hours I entered for that task are used up, instead of equally distributing the work hours for that task across the week.

    So when I enter:
    Task Work
    Task 1 8 h
    Task 2 16 h
    Task 3 16 h

    Project gives me:

    M T w Th F
    Task 1 Work 8
    Task 2 Work 8 8
    Task 3 Work 8 8

Looking like I want 24 hours of work on Monday, 16 hours on Tuesday, and none on W, Th, F.

    How do I fix this?

Re: MS Project 2007 - Help with Durations/Tasks

Project calculates the duration of tasks based on the definitions of the duration units on the Calendar tab of the Options dialog box inTools menu. Just like a normal monthly calendar, the year begins in January and each week begins on Sunday or Monday. By default, when Project calculates duration units, one day equals 8 hours, one week equals 40 hours, and one month equals 20 working days. If you enter start and finish dates for tasks and don't enter start and finish times, Project uses 8:00 A.M. as the default start time and 5:00 P.M. as the default end time. Best of luck.
