QuickTime Error 1309 while exporting video ??

    Hi,

I QuickTime Pro with mac os x 10.5.6 and a great external hard drive (LACIE 250GB, 7200 RPM, USB 2). My problem is that I got message "Error 1309" when exporting to drag and drop these files on my new external hard drive. My new hard drive brand new to me used to anything. What should be cause of getting QuickTime Error 1309 while exporting video ????

I was getting the same error while, I select the disk in the Finder and choose Get Info from the File menu, if the disk's format is listed as FAT32, or MS-DOS, that error means that I was trying to copy a file over 4GB to the drive, Which format that can not accommodate and then I use the Disk Utility in the /Applications/Utilities/folder to reformat that drive to one of the Mac OS Extended variants. Copy back the files and folders. My problem solved

QuickTime Error 1309 means a frame or a series of frames could not be compressed and added to the movie. Make sure the drive is formatted Mac OS Extended. Click the drive icon and do File> Get Info or press Command-I, if it says FAT32 or NTFS, you will see below, you can not copy a file larger than 4GB on it.

I think, this would happen if you use the external drive only for mac, formatted in HFS + format is mac and accept files larger than 4Gb. If you also want to use for windows then windows on any computer you are going to put before you have to put in windows a program called MacDrive, and that's what you can use copy and paste etc. s nothing without a problem.

You can see the format of the disc in Disk Utility. If you have never ever formatted, but you have it as it comes standard, then surely come in FAT16 or FAT32. opies files that do not want to lose, open Disk Utility, delete tab, select the hard drive and hit format Mac OS Extended (Journaled). No more problems or fragmentation, or file name or file size.

If you copy files from your OS X partition external disk or partition Boot Camp Finder and receive error code -1309, it probably means that you copy a file larger than 4 GB in size, which is the maximum a FAT32 formatted disk can support. Because the 32 means that FAT32 uses a 32 bit unsigned for the number of bytes in a file, so 2 ^ 32-1 is 4GB.
