problem installing realtek

I formatted my computer and i re-installed xp sp2. mine's an old comp so i can't do with realtek high definition audio, it must be REALTEK AC'97. unfortunately this version is NOT DIGITALLY SIGNED for xp. i install it, the comp prompts me to restart. i do and it says new hardware found- realtek ac'97. fine i say yes to install and it says this has not undergone windows logo testing. i click continue anyway. it begins to instal and the comp suddenly TURNS OFF. please do tell me how to solve this problem. comp without sound to me is like cell phone without calling option. i tried all versions of it A361, A380, A441 etc. thank you very much in advance. i hope you'll need it.

Have you enabled in the BIOS, I guess you've done and updated the drivers realtek. I had the same problem, no sound, but his problem was that there was enabled in the BIOS. When I tried to open the volume control that came with a message. Try to volume control run in yours and see if the sound card has been activated (enabled doesn't mean recognized).
