    Firstly i would like to know whether you are having an internal or external drive. Also specify that which one of them are you disconnecting or you are disconnecting both the drives. But don't bother about that i think that when you will re-connect the drive again this will solve your problem. So i hope this resolved the issue soon.

    This issue always arises when you try to enumerate the folders such as downloads , contacts, I don't think that the erroro is related to target device anyway. Before coming top a solution i would like to see the etl files can you post it across. Hence i am mentioning the procedure to get the etl file below:

    1.Go to Run type in regedit.exe
    2.Now, Move to [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\WindowsBackup]-> right click and say "export" and send across the exported file.
    3.Again repeat the step 1 and goto [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Shell Folders] -> right click and say "export" and send across the exported file.

    In this matter i would advice you to exclude the Additional locations from the UI. To exclude it follow the steps which are mentioned below :

    * Change settings->Select target->let me choose->
    * expand each user's nodes-> exclude additional locations
    * Save these settings .
    * Backup now

    I had faced the similar problems in the past but was unable to get rid of it. So in desperation i tried to exclude the Additional locations of the UI. That really did the trick hence i follow the steps below:

    1.Go to change settings and select the target
    2.Then you will have to expand the user nodes and after that exclude the additional locations
    3.Save it and now the backup will definitely succeed
