Problems with Dashboard in Mac OS X

I have an iMac which is running on Intel core2 duo processor and installed with Mac OS X 10.4. Recently While using Dashboard, it started zooming in and out on its own. This happens everytime the system starts and I cant figure out the cause for the problem. I want to know How to reinstall Dashboard? as i think it may have got corrupt. Can this be because of operating system? Please suggest some solutions.

There are certain keys on the keyboard which act as shortcut for many functions of the Dashboard. Check if these keys on the keyboard have not pressed by any chance. Also check the buttons on the mouse as zoom function in the Dashboard is controlled by mouse. Disconnect the mouse and the keyboard one at a time and see if the Dashboard still zooms in and out on its own. If the Dashboard behaves normally then there is certainly something wrong with Keyboard or the mouse and one of them or both of them needs to be replaced.

This can be because of the operating system of your computer. Dashboard utility is installed in the application folder of the system. Certain system files are linked with the Dashboard utilities which are needed for proper working of the Dashboard. If these files get corrupted then the Dashboard utility will not work properly and will create problems when the application is executed. If you have the install disk of the operating system you are using then insert it and Install the operating system in Install/Archive mode which will enable you to use the previously installed applications on the operating system. Reinstalling the operating system will solve the problem.

There is an application which is available online for the Mac operating system which helps in repairing the damaged application without reinstalling the whole operating system. The name of the application is Pacifist. Once the Pacifist is installed on the system it can be used to find the altered or the damaged files of the application. Once the damaged or the altered files are found they can be replaced without any issues. Pacifist is compiled in Universal Binary which makes it possible to run on any of the Mac computers.

The easiest way to reinstall the application is to get the operating system updated. Dashboard application is a built a default application which is provided with Mac OS X 10.4. By looking at the problem is seems to be that the some of the files related to the application have got damaged and needs to be replaced. Instead of reinstalling the operating system again you can update the operating system on your computer. Updating will replace the damage files with files which are required for the New version to work and hence will solve the problem.

Re: Problems with Dashboard in Mac OS X

Dragging out the folder of the Dashboard out of the application folders will only disable the shortcuts which are used to run the application and will not remove the application totally. Therefore the application will not run on its own nor will its features untill the application is started by the user. You will be able to start the Dashboard by pressing F4 key on the keyboard which is default key for running Dashboard on Mac OS X.
