    A you are aware that Windows Address Book has been replaced by Windows Contacts in Windows 7. Although i had been replaced but the windows contacts have all the feature of windows XP address book and if you have upgraded from window XP to windows 7 then your contacts will be automatically saved in the contacts folder. You just need to restore this backup and you are done.

    Since both of the applications are made by the windows itself then you don't have to worry about that because both of the applications are compatible with each other. Also note that if you have upgraded your system then you just have to restore the back up which is created automatically during the upgradation.

    It seems as you did a custom insallation of windows 7 so you will have to export the address book from Windows XP and the import it to Windows contact in windows 7. In order to achieve this you will have to follow the steps mentioned below:

    1. Start Outlook Express in Windows XP
    2. Move to File -> Export - > Address Book
    2. Export the address book Text File (.csv) format.
    3. Select saving location and all the contact details you want to export
    4. Then click Finish.

    If you have upgrade your system to Windows 7 from Windows XP, Then i think all of your contacts from windows address book will be automatically transferred to the windows 7. The windows XP address book converts all the contact from the address book to .Contact file format and stores it in you contacts folder and then the windows contact automatically imports this file.

    I think that you will have to restore the backup file which is created automatically during the upgrade to Windows 7. You can restores the address book by following the steps below

    * Double click the outlook Express icon in Windows XP
    * Open File Menu Under that select export and then go to address book.
    * Save it on a specific location

    Restoring process

    * On your Windows 7 computer, click Start and then click your name
    * Open the contact folder
    * Click import on the toolbar and then select the file which you have exported in the above steps
