According to me, this problem is but natural to come. The Access file of the Office 2000 or 97 will not work in Windows 7 office, because the office in your Windows 7 is of higher or newer version. I would suggest you to copy the data of the older access file and paste in new access file in Windows 7 office. Hope you will be able to solve the problem.

i'm not sure i made myself clear. i created a database in office 97 and was using it in office 2000 with no problems in windows xp. i am now using windows 7 and when i copy the database from its directory to another directory, say c:\temp, i lose information that was in the database. if i purchase say office 2007 can i 1) use the database i created in office 97 and if i do, can i then use the office 2007 access database in my other computer which is running office 2000 (on windows xp)? tia ...steve

Yesh do can do this. Provided that you save the database in Windows 7 with Office 2007 in Office 97 format. There is an option to save it in previous version so that it can be compatible with previous Office versions...
