sad MsMpEng.exe Problem

Can anyone help identify why msmpeng.exe is using nearly all of my memory? I have 64bit Windows 7 Ultimate. All of the Google inquiries I make point me towards Windows Defender being the culprit but I have turned this off (I just verified in Task Manager / Services that is in fact 'stopped'

Sorry that this posted twice, I received a database error the first time and didn't think it had posted.

Its not any harm to your system as it is common issue with Windows Defender and OneCare. msmpeng.exe usually takes much memory but only at the time of scanning the system. It will be back to normal once the scan process gets finished.

Re: MsMpEng.exe Problem

My problem is still that I have Windows Defender disabled and Windows OneCare is not part of Windows 7, so where is the offending MsMpEng.exe originating?

Re: MsMpEng.exe Problem

Hi friend,

'MsMpEng.exe' causes the constant consumption of excessive memory as well as the CPU. To avoid this type of problem caused by MsMpEng.exe, you need to disable all the item from the startup using MSCONFIG. If you prblem get solved then again you need to enable the items from the startup as one item at a time untile you will get the conflict . I hope it will work for you.
