Windows 7 6GB of ram with only 4 installed?

    Hi everyone!

I have a quick question. I just built up a new comp. and did a fresh install of windows 7 premium 32 bit. In my windows system specs its telling me that I have 6GB of ram installed and have 3.7GB available. The weird thing is that I installed 4GB of kingston memory (2 - 2GB sticks). Not 6GB. In my bios, its reading exactly what it should be. But windows is picking it up at 6GB.

    Does anyone know why?

    Thanks everyone!

I'm sorry, The above should say 'Windows 7 Professional'. Not Premuim.

And a little more info, I'm running a MSI G31TM-P21 mainboard, Intel Pentium 4 E6300 2.8Ghhz processer, Kingston PC6400 800MHz 4GB DDR2 Ram, And a EVGA 9500 GT video card. I'm seeing this reading in the windows experiance window. It says that I have 6GB or RAM installed and 3.5GB is usable. As I said before, In the bios its reading exactly what it should be (4096).

Any help would be greatly apreciated!
    Thanks!

Here is a cap of my system data as well.
As you can see, It says 6GB of ram. Another thing that I noticed is that it reports over 2GB of graphics memory and I only have a 1GB card installed. Or does that include system memory?

Your operating system and services and startup programs consume a small amount of resident ram. Run MSConfig and click on the boot tab. Click "advanced options" and and look to see if Windows7 is constraining any of your memory. For further info go to search, type "sysinfo" and all your basic stats will be displayed. If you want you can check out the following links.

    Windows 7 shows 4GB RAM but i have 6GB

Windows XP, 4 GB RAM shows only 2.7 GB

Hope so it may resolve your above issue.

    Thanks for the reply Sam!

I seem to have been having a problem that I've not seen anywhere else in quite the same way. Everyone else is talking about having 6GB of ram installed and only 3 or 4GB posting. I myself had 4GB of ram installed and 6GB was posting in windows.

Anyway, I updated my bios yesterday, and when I checked after the update, the ram was posting correctly in windows as 4GB. I don't know exactly why or how, But it worked and everything is Jake.

Thanks for the suggestions and effort!
