Desktop icon titles disappeared in windows 7

My Compaq presario laptop is installed with windows 7 operating system. I am experiencing a serious problem that all my desktop icons titles disappeared when i started the laptop yesterday , Also the icon spacing is more narrow than normally what it used to be. When i created a new user account the new user does not seems to have this issue. So i think that here must be a switch to hide or unhide the text below the desktop Icons. any help in this matter will be appreciated.

As you have posted in your query that if you are not getting this problem when you create a new user then. You can create a new user for your own and after that you must import all your documents so that you get all your settings back. All the best to you and please post back if your problem is not solved.

Have you checked your system with the Anti virus, Since it is quite possible that it would be the cause behind all your problem. You can also try to get some online help with the microsoft's live support. Try to get rid of all the possible threats existing in your system

Re: Desktop icon titles disappeared in windows 7

You can try the steps which are mentioned below and so that you can solve your problem

* Create a new user and login with that user into your system.
* Open Control Panel -> Folder Options -> View ->Enable Show Hidden Files/Folders
* Go to c:\users\<troubled profile name>\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows
* Rename the "Explorer" folder to "Explorer-old"
* Now log off and then log in with the troubled profile.
