Problem Installing VLC on Mandriva 2007

Hello,
A recent convert to Linux, try to "transfer" my usual apps from Windows to Mandriva 2007. I encounter a problem with VlC. I scoured the various posts and I used the method explained here http://www.videolan.org/vlc/download-mandriva.html using urpmi.
VLC is actually installed in the package and is offered as an option to play videos. The big pb is that I have no video in vlc (sound is OK). I made the manip several times by uninstalling and then checking all the files. The goal for me is to install Vlc to add layer free player. Any help on this.

By changing the display settings?
You can try something, opened a terminal and type:

$ Gstreamer-properties

Go to the tab "Video"And change Default Output in "X Windows System (No Xv)"And tell us what happens. Hope this will fix your problem.

The window appears and I made the manip, when I test with the test box, a graphic window appears letting me believe that it will be fine. But when I try to play an avi or wma I have no image. For the cons avi read very well with KMplayer.

In fact it is the same manipulation on VLC but it must be done, I think.
It must seek "Settings" -> "Preferences", then "Video" -> "Output modules". Check the following
"Advanced Options" (bottom right is checked) and select "X11 Video Output" (or do tests to see what works for you). If you have more problems regarding this please do post back.

Yes, it seemed as though VLC comprised internally any soup and other codecs to play media files.
So as said, we must look if he is not a history video output a bit screwed up and play with. Remember to think he restart VLC it reflects the change in video output. Any more queries do post back.

It seems that this is a problem with codec, because I just tested on TS files and then the sound and image are OK. By cons for avi, I have the sound
And for wmv file, I have neither sound nor image. So, installing Vlc does not affect. If some can help me finalize the problem it would be appreciated. I am thinking of reinstalling vlc from the mandriva dvd and update rpm and see if vlc works. Thank you
