Try connecting the Zune device to another USB port on your computer. Use a USB port on the back of the computer. Use a USB hub. When the Zune device is run again, connect the Zune device to the computer that is installed on the current Zune software. Then update the device on the current device software version.

Re: Zune Error : The ordinal 281 could not be located in the dynamic link library msi.dll.

Examine the computer for conflicts that involve the host controller or the USB root hub. To do this, follow these steps:
  1. Click Start, click the right mouse button on a computer, then click Properties.
  2. Click on Device Manager.
  3. Expand Universal Serial Bus controllers.
  4. Verify that no errors are listed in the list of USB devices. A yellow exclamation point or red "X" next to a device indicates errors. If errors are listed, contact the manufacturer of your computer.
