Hello, I am a student of BSC.I.T. And in my syllabus we have SQL Server 2005. So, I don't have more idea regading the SQL server 2008. If anyone is using it, then please give me some details about it. I want to know the similarities and differences between them. So, if you are familiar with both of SQL Server 2008 and SQL Server 2005 then please give me details of 2008.

Re: SQL Server 2008 vs SQL Server 2005

I have used SQL Server 2008 and alos SQL Server 2005. I think both of them are quiet same. Means you will able to use SQL Server 2008 if you have used SQL Server 2005. But, SQL Server 2008 provides your more faster response regarding your Queries. It is having following more features:
  1. Enterprise data platform
  2. Beyond Relational
  3. Dynamic Development
  4. Pervasive Insight

Re: SQL Server 2008 vs SQL Server 2005

There are many features provided in the SQL Server 2008 and you will able to know the difference between SQL Server 2008 and SQL Server 2005 only if you use it. I don't think that you would feel difference in terms of the use, but you will get the difference in the performance and in response. If you are using SQL Server 2000 and then you move to the SQL Server 2005 and then you move to SQL Server 2008 then you can able to know the improvement in your working of application data. So, it is better to install the SQL Server 2008 on your computer and then feel the difference by own.

Re: SQL Server 2008 vs SQL Server 2005

If you use the SQL server 2008 then you will able to get more faster response that compared to the SQL Server 2008. I think you need to use the versions as per your requirements and as well as your knowledge and understanding. SQL server 2008 is having ability to manage data more than your SQL Server 2005. It saves your cost of using, as well as it saves your whole space by compressing your database. So, if you want more advanced features then you can make use of the SQL Server 2008.
