Photo / video management software

Hi
I use fedora 11 as my default operating system. I need some software which can grab photos and videos from my photographic machine and some of the folders. The images are in .jpeg file format and the videos are in .avi file format. I was search for such software on internet and I found the F-Spot and picassa. But unfortunately both of them could not import videos. Then for searching for some more time I found the digikam. I installed it and tried to run it but it freezes when at the start up. May be this is because I run a gnome desktop environment version of fedora. Can any one help me please? Do you know any such software, which I can use for. Thanks in advance.

I think you should try running the digikam from your terminal and see what it is giving up. May be that you can fix the error by your self. Try this if it is not working then you can try some other software's. But by my knowledge the digikam is a good software and will be helpful to you. You should try it first. Any further problems do post back.

As you suggested i tried to debug the digikam, I ran it in the terminal there were no errors detected. This time it started fine but the soon it was breezed with a blue screen. there was no information at all. Then I killed the process. I use xkill to kill or terminate the processes. I searched in the F-spot forums, there they had mentioned about the patch. the patch was to import videos but it was not implemented for the final version. I am hopping that they soon create a patch that will support the final version also.

Hi
If you are using a dv camera and you want to import videos then you can use kino or dvgrab. It is a CLI program. If it is a digital camera with video functions then you can just copy and past to your computer from the memory card and the computer will play the videos for you. Try this it will help you.
