Windows 7 Help for peripheral not installed properly

I have recently installed Windows 7 64 bit operating system on my desktop computer. Earlier I had Windows Vista which I un-installed before loading Windows 7. I am having problems adding new hardware or peripheral devices to my desktop. It should usually automatically install the drivers but that is not the way it happens on my desktop. What should I do if a peripheral is not installed properly on my desktop?

    5. Make the selection for the choice of your option under Important updates.
    6. Check mark the Give me recommended updates the same way I receive important updates check box below the Recommended Updates.
    7. Click OK to apply settings.

In case if the peripheral device is not supporting the new plug and play technology you might require to require to install manually the peripheral device. The Add Hardware wizard is useful for this process:
    • Click on Start menu on the bottom left of the screen.
    • Enter run in Search box and press Enter.
    • Enter hdwwiz in the Run dialog box to open the Add Hardware wizard and press OK button.
    • Follow as instructed by the Add Hardware wizard and select Next.
