Once a file or folder is encrypted, you can operate the same way as any other file or folder. The encryption process is transparent to the user who encrypted the file. In other words, you don't need to decrypt the encrypted file before using it. You can open and edit the file as you normally would. However, any intruder who tries to access your encrypted files or folders will be prevented. You either uses Windows default option or a third party software for the same.

If have encrypted your file and when the same is tried to access by any then he will receive a message of refusal of access if he tries to open, copy, move or rename your file or folder encryption. To encrypt or decrypt a folder or file, you must set the encryption property for folders and files just as you would define any other attribute, such as read only, compressed, or hidden. If you encrypt a folder, all files and sub-folders created in the encrypted folder are automatically encrypted. It is recommended that the encryption level folders. Use encryption to protect your documents against intruders who might obtain unauthorized physical access to your confidential data stored (by stealing your laptop or your Zip drive, for example).

Compressing files saves space on the disk, since the files are compressed. However, when accessing these files, you must uncompressed them, you lose in performance. It is advisable to compress files that you use infrequently. Avoid programs and compress already compressed files (mp3, zip, rar, avi divx) since they are already compressed. To compress the selected file or folder and right click properties. In the new window in the General tab, click Advanced in the lower right. Select compress contents to save disk space.
