I was pissed off by the sound that comes when I receive EMail in outlook. It sometimes disrupts the mind. The following are the steps to get rid of the Sound of EMail alerts.
    1. Open the Outlook, then choose Tools, Options, and click E-mail Options.

    2. Then click on "Advanced E-Mail Options" tab.

    3. Uncheck the box placed in front of Play a sound.

    4. Uncheck the box next to Show an envelope icon in the notification area.

    5. Also Uncheck the box next to Display a New Mail Desktop Alert. So that there wil be pop-ups on your Desktop.

Even I find the auto-message alerts in Outlook to be disruptive. Find it a bit distracting – particularly when trying to finish a project or a report. Have no fear; here’s how to disable those alerts (and you can even enable them at any time):

    After opening the Outlook:
    · Click tools and then click the Options tab
    · Then click email options
    · Now select Advanced E-mail options
    · Now un-check the following options: 1) Play a sound; 2) briefly change the mouse; 3) show an envelope in notification; 4) Display a new email desktop alert
    · Click OK to apply
