File not opening in MS word

Hi. I have a MS(Micorsoft) word file created on my friends PC but the thing is when I copied it to my system the file is not able to open up. Me and and my friend use the same operating system that is Windows Xp service pack 2. I have had left the file on my friends system for quite a long time and just took the file via pendrive and copied it to my system. I just do not know how it happened? Please help me out. Thank you.

This is basically related to the type of word document you have been using into your software application. It means that you might have made the document on a MS word 2007 version and there can be a possibility that you might be using an older version. This related that the extension for the versions are different. The 2003 version has .doc as extension and 2007 version has .docx extension. Check out for this.

Well the pendrive might be an issue for this. As you have transferred the file using a pendrive this tends that your pendrive might carry out a virus. Due to this your file is unable to open. This can happen. If your portable drive has already been affected by a virus it might have corrupted the document made by you as it existed in it. So basically you need to scan your drive in order to check for the issue. Then you might get to the conclusion that is virus the problem for it. If it is then take the file to a system or a device which is not infected.

Your word file might have been encrypted or protected due to which you are not able to view the contents. Ask your friend whether had he protected the document by keeping a password or encrypted. There is a certain things that has to be taken into consideration like whether the document is decrypted and user has the authority to access the file. This can solve your problem.
