Ms Office 2008 on Snow Leopard crashes due to older version of Snow Leopard, install newer version of some fonts so you should have had to disable or remove the older ones in the Microsoft fonts folder. However, you should plan in advance rather than relying on the installer to single out incompatible apps. Update your version of Snow Leopard. That may fix your problem.

Create a partition of at least 15 GB. You can do this using Disk Utility if have enough space on your disk. Remember to leave 10% free for primary partition. Installing Snow Leopard and Office 2008. This will take about 10 GB. You can play in this test partition until you are satisfied that Snow Leopard is stable for you. Don't forget to delete the duplicate fonts after installing.

Run the Font Book application, that shows you the conflicting fonts and delete the fonts with an extension of .dfont. Empty the trash as the font may be in use. Then restarted iMac and you will be able to run MSOffice 2008 on your mac machine. And remember that Snow Leopard will require at least 1GB of RAM and will only work on Intel Macs.
